Karnataka lottery scam: CBI not keen on investigating case?

The CBI is not likely to take up the lottery scam, referred to it by the State government

BENGALURU: The CBI is not likely to take up the lottery scam, referred to it by the State government following a sting operation by a TV channel in which the lottery kingpin Pari Rajan, who was arrested and is presently in judicial custody, had alleged that he was in touch with some senior police officers.

The government had suspended superintendent of police (former Excise & Lottery wing) Dharnendra and Inspector General of Police Alok Kumar because of his reported proximity to Rajan and a controversial call he had made to a sub inspector of police handling Rajan case. His call detail records reportedly showed that there were 200 calls made and received from Rajan.

According to sources, the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) to which the State government had issued a notification in the end week of May seeking a probe into illegal lottery scam in the State from 2007 onwards by the CBI has so far not notified the premier investigating agency to take over the lottery scam in Karnataka, which had banned single digit lottery in 2007. Meanwhile, Kumar has written to Ministry of Home Affairs in which he has pleaded his innocence.
