11-year-old schoolgirl allegedly jumps off hostel building, dies
Hyderabad: Criminal negligence on the part of a school cost the life of an 11-year-old girl in Kushaiguda. A Class VIII student of KKR Gowtham School in Kushaiguda died after she allegedly jumped off the hostel building on Wednesday night.
A case of negligence was booked after it was noted that the school hadn’t locked the door that led to the roof from where the girl jumped. Daughter of Saresh and Sridevi from Thorrur in Warangal, the victim had shifted to Hyderabad to study. She reportedly called her parents on Wednesday, asking them to take her home.
Girl died before parents reached school
The parents of the girl who jumped from the top of a school had assured her that they would visit her on Thursday. However, the school management called them up on Wednesday at 7 pm saying that their daughter was in a serious condition and was being shifted to the Gandhi Hospital. By the time her parents reached, she had died.
After taking stock of the events that preceded the incident, the girl’s parents, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) and the Balala Hakkula Sangham suspected foul play. The girl’s parents approached the Human Rights commission which directed ACP Alwal and DEO Hyderabad to look into the case.
SCPCR too has taken suo-motu note and issued directives to the district collector, Ranga Reddy and DCP, Malkajgiri to conduct investigations. “We suspect that it is a case of sexual abuse by the 25-year-old watchman/warden of the school and that the school is trying to cover up something," said a member of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
