SC warned all HC not to pass any order of compromise between rape victim and the accused

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave a stern warning to all trial and High Courts in the country not to pass any order of compromise between the rape victim and the accused or award lesser punishment in such cases.
Taking note of the facts of this case, as well as a recent order passed by the Madras High Court suggesting a compromise between the rape accused and the victim, while granting bail, a bench of Justices Dipak Misra and Prafulla C. Pant expressed concern at how some of the appellate judges, contrary to precedent and against the normative mandate of law and assuming a presumptuous role, had paved the path of unbelievable laconicity in dealing with such appeals.
