Karnataka minister Shivaraj Tangadagi in a spot over Koppal murder

BJP leaders headed by K S Eshwarappa boycotted the House demanding his immediate removal

Belagavi: Minor irrigation minister Shivaraj Tangadagi was in the opposition sights in the upper House over the recent murder of a 17-year-old student from Kanakgiri in Koppal district as BJP leaders headed by K S Eshwarappa boycotted the House demanding his immediate removal from the state cabinet and also sought a CBI investigation into the case.

Based on the events surrounding the brutal killing of student Yallalinga at Kanakgiri in January and the way Mr Tangadagi supported the main accused Hanmesh Nayak to avoid his imminent arrest until the CID took over the investigation, the government should remove Mr Tangadgi from the cabinet replacing him with an honest legislator, said Mr Eshwarappa alleging that the attempts made by the minister to protect the accused are serious in nature.

For six months after the incident, Mr Eshwarpapa said, the police department did not arrest several accused including Hanmesh Nayak under pressure from influential and powerful leaders including Mr Tangadagi.
