Yes, you read it right. Pornography will explode in the next 5 years ahead of us and all thanks to the ever increasing speed of the internet. A new analysis from Juniper Research, a firm based in the UK, predicts that online porn will burst out, increasing by a shopping 42 per cent in the next five years, reported The Huffington Post.
Currently, an estimated number of 136 billion porn videos are being watched in a single year and the prediction by the report states that the number will rise to a whopping 193 billion by 2020.
The main reason for the boom in the porn outrage is the introduction of mobile devices and faster internet speeds. Broadband connections are getting cheaper by the year and streaming a high definition video on a simple smartphone is becoming a norm. Thanks to the increasing power of technology and the reducing costs, it is getting easier than ever to access dirty movies.
The research goes ahead to mention that on an average, each person with a smartphone will watch no less than 348 porn videos each year. High-speed internet such as Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G are changing the way video streaming services operate, making it easier for people to watch high-definition videos on smartphones. The research firm also sees an increase in video chat and webcam content as a major growth for online video content and pornography. Lastly, the study also mentions that developing countries will account for an increase in porn views and the US will be seeing the largest increase in porn viewing.
However, Huffington Post also mentions a problem with the increasing porn availability. The report further mentions that ‘Leading adult sites have struggled to maintain revenues, with popularity declining as consumers seek out free content from alternative sources.’ This has resulted in more and more people heading to video chatting and free-streaming websites, such as PornHub and Xvideos. Presently, Juniper has ranked the top porn website, Xvideos, for free adult videos as number 76 in the US and number 44 in the UK. These rankings are based on the traffic-measuring website Alexa. PornHub stands at number 73 and 76 respectively.
