Call for school bandh today in Telangana

Student organisations also warned schools not to remain open on Wednesday

Hyderabad: As many as seven student organisations have called for a shutdown of schools in the state on Wednesday, July 1, to protest against the TRS government’s education policy paralysis.

This is the second shutdown called by student organisations in the state in less than two weeks, as they are up in arms against the Telangana Rashtra Samiti government for not keeping pre-election promises.

Seven student organisations — PDSU, SFI, AISF, TVV, PDSU(T), AIDSO and AIFDS — have called for the shutdown of all schools on Wednesday.

Among their demands is the immediate announcement of a policy document on the KG to PG free education scheme and regulation of private school fees.

“Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao promised KG to PG free education but nothing has been done till now. In the one year since the formation of Telangana, this government has done nothing for education,” said A. Ashok, PDSU general secretary for TS.

Student outfits are also asking for regulation of private school fees and strengthening of the public school structure, both of which they say the government is not willing to do.

Student organisations also warned schools not to remain open on Wednesday.

Several schools were forced to close by student organisations the last time they had called for a shutdown.
