Three Hyderabad police constables suspended for assault

Police commissioner blames NRIs for creating nuisance, arguing

Hyderabad: City police commissioner, M. Mahender Reddy suspended three police constables and a homeguard on Tuesday for allegedly beating up NRIs and seeking bribe from them in Musheerabad.

The commissioner said that the allegations of victims have been inquired into and the accused sub-inspector has been transferred to Central Armed Reserve (CAR).

Meanwhile, the police chief said that the NRIs had created nuisance in an inebriated condition and had argued with the cops, so the case against them will be pursued.

“In the preliminary inquiry conducted, police constables K. Rajender, M. Hanumantha Rao, K. Narayana, and homeguard K. Suresh Kumar, were found involved in beating and high-handed behaviour tarnishing the image of the police. They have been placed under suspension with immediate effect,” said an order issued by the commissioner.

V. Sampath, sub inspector of Musheerabad police station, has been sent to CAR headquarters with immediate effect till the inquiry is completed.

The commissioner said that all station house officers, divisional ACPs and zonal DCPs have been informed that such conduct on the part of cops is unacceptable. They have also been instructed to ensure that they handle all such cases with due care and caution without being provoked.

Describing the incident Mr Mahender Reddy said that a caller alerted dial 100 at 2.43 am stating that some persons were creating nuisance near Guru Nanak Care Hospital in Musheerabad.

“A Blue Colts vehicle with police constables reached the spot and found four persons were drunk and creating nuisance. When they were asked to leave, they picked up an argument with the cops”. said the commissioner.

“Blue Colts personnel informed the duty officer of Musheerabad police and a patrol car was sent to assist them. When the four men refused to board the police vehicle, the officers forcibly took them to the police station. Enraged by their behaviour, they beat them up with fibre lathis and hands causing severe bruises to the victim Mallapuram Vasu and simple injuries to others,” he added.

After registering a case against them, the main accused Preetam was arrested and produced before the Magistrate while others were let off.
