Seers fume at NT Rama Rao statue
They say it is not auspicious and will impact the future generations
Kakinada: Seers and spiritual leaders are critical of the proposal of the state government to erect the statue of N.T. Rama Rao dressed as Krishna in the Godavari waters or at the ghats at Rajahmundry on the occasion of Pushkaralu.
According to them it is not auspicious and it is against the Sashtras. Devotees and pilgrims should not be forced see a mere mortal as god. They said such a move cannot be defended on any ground.
Sri Sarada Peetham seer Swami Swaroopa Narendra of Visakhapatnam said: “It is against the Sashtras to erect statues in a river. This will harm the future generations who may mistake the former chief minister to be Lord Krishna. In a holy place, it is also not proper to erect the statue of an actor or a politican.” He said the government should protect the sanctity of rivers.
Kakinada’s Sree Peetham seer Swami Paripoornananda Saraswathi said river water is used by devotees to take a holy dip and perform rituals for their ancestors. Any pollution should not be allowed in the rivers, according to the Shastras.
Regarding the NTR statue proposal, he said: “There may be competition among the politicians or other persons in society and many more statues come up. Such a trend is not at all desirable.” Spiritual leader Maha Sahasravadhani said that
