Pay extra to clear Internet doubts
The exact percentage and prognosis is difficult to inform the patient
Hyderabad: The Internet is proving to be a big headache as doctors claim that patients spend too much time looking up information, which may not be applicable to the patient.
Dr Pradeep Deshpande, professor of nephrology at Gandhi Medical College said, “The human body is more complex than computers. The exact percentage and prognosis is difficult to inform the patient. But they are not ready to listen. They show Internet pages on their smart phones and argue with the doctors. Many of the patients are not ready to understand that this is half the knowledge and may or may not be applicable to their patient.”
Such is the irony that some of the doctors are very clear that they will not discuss opinions or suggestions on the Internet with relatives. General surgeon Dr Arshad G. Mohammed said, “Some of our fraternity members have put up banners and posters on Facebook profiles and also on their WhatsApp status, clearly mentioning that no questions based on Internet will be entertained. One of them had put up a poster outside this dispensary ‘Internet based questions will be charged extra’.”
