Early admission decision leaves engineering colleges wary

The government has decided to complete admissions early this year
Kakinada: As the Eamcet engineering counselling is going on in the state, a serious problem is likely to crop up for most of the government and university colleges in Andhra Pradesh in the shape of NIT, IIT, IIIT and other reputed technical institutions. The government has decided to complete admissions early this year.
Already first phase counselling has been completed and the second phase counselling is likely to be started from July 8 and 9. However, the admission process of NIT, IIT, IIIT and other technical institutions have not been started yet. According to results of these institutions, nearly 3,000 engineering students belong to AP have qualified for it to get seats in NIIT, IIIT and other technical institutions.
At present most of these students got ranks in AP Eamcet and opted for government and varsity engineering colleges. If the government closes admissions in engineering colleges in AP, after completion of second phase, according to academicians, the university and government colleges are likely to face problem in filling up the seats as all the rankers of technical ins-titutions are likely to leave the colleges.
If the such situation crops up, the seats in the colleges will remain vacant after closing of admissions and they should not take other students into their colleges, said a director in JNTU-K.
Actually these seats should be given to other rankers. But, they will lose the opportunity of getting admissions in university and government engineering colleges in the state. Meanwhile, sources said the government directed the engineering colleges to start academic year for first year students from July 2.
“If a student opted for choosing another college in second phase counselling, he can do like that, otherwise, he can't get refund for his fees from first chosen college,”' said the AP Eamcet Convener K. Saibabu. According to sources, the government will decide whether the third phase counselling would be conducted or not on July 1.
