Centre letter rules out implementing section 8 of AP Reorganisation Act

Hyderabad: After receiving the letter from the Centre on Section 8, Congress MP Govardhan Reddy met the Union minister in New Delhi on Tuesday and raised the ambiguity of the matter.

He later told media persons, “When I met him on Tuesday and sought further clarification on his letter, he told me that there was no question of the Centre implementing Section 8 of the AP Act.”

In a reply to a matter raised by Mr Govardhan Reddy by way of Special Mention in Rajya Sabha on June 22, regarding demand for withdrawing the memorandum issued on June 4 relating to the special responsibilities to the Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the minister’s letter stated that Telangana government’s comments were sought vide ministry’s communication dated June 4, 2014.

It added that on the assurance of the Telangana government to discharge its responsibility and maintain law and order, the Centre closed the matter.
