Booming scrap metal business in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The scarp metal business in Hyderabad is booming. With revenues running into crores, many small scrap dealers have made it big, including a couple of MLAs.
The no-loss business has been set up in every locality. In fact many start-ups have tied up with small scrap dealers to whom the rap pickers sell their daily pickings. And not just traders, many artists also buy scrap metal in bulk for sculptures. Many of the sculptures made during COP 11 used scrap metal and JNTU’s Fine Arts College also runs several workshops on scrap art.
There are traders who deal only in bottles, some in steel, copper and aluminum while others in paper and cardboard etc.
Hyderabad traders even export steel waste to other states. “Scrap metal business has three major priorities: accumulation of scrap metal, the holding area, and the safety measure. The waste are unwanted metal pieces that usually come from building supplies, discarded vehicle parts, and other surplus materials. Scrap metal is actually a very important commodity and is usually almost always in demand for both production and recycling. Scrap metal or recycled metal is less costly than pure metal, and the market for scrap metal is huge,” said Sandeep Khushal, a trader in scarp metal at Monda Market.
Larger scrap dealers usually segregate the metals in piles according to quality and recyclable parts. Buyers then bid for specific piles.
