BCCI gives ‘clean chit’ to CSK trio
“The three players are international players and fall under international jurisdiction” said Thakur
New Delhi: Ending the brief controversy over three players allegedly to have benefited from a Mumbai builder’s largesse as revealed in yet another “expose” by Lalit Modi, the cricket control board on Monday said it had no grounds to take action against them.
Said BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur here on the day, “there is nothing in it” when he was asked about the International Cricket Council agreeing that Modi had indeed informed it in June 2013 that two Indians and a West Indian had received “gifts” worth Rs 20 crore each.
These allegedly included cash for the overseas player anbd properties in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai for the two Indians, all of whom are from the same Indian Premier League team.
“Lalit Modi had written a letter to ICC, so they informed BCCI about the letter. The three players are international players and fall under international jurisdiction. There is no information on these players from ICC so far, so it is in a way a clean chit for them to play,” said Thakur.
“The ICC has sent a press release, they had informed BCCI about the three players. When somebody plays international cricket, the ICC is responsible. Only the ICC can answer as per their investigations,” the BCCI secretary added.
No evidence against the three, says ICC
The ICC had found no evidence against the three international cricketers who have been accused of accepting bribes by former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and had closed the matter after a thorough investigation. The game’s governing body had on Sunday hinted that it had found no evidence against the three cricketers, when in a statement it said, “...The ACSU handled that information in accordance with its standard operating procedures, including sharing it with BCCI’s anti-corruption unit.”
