Vijayawada: Passport applicants from neighbouring districts visiting the Passport Seva Kendra in the city are seeking certain basic facilities at the centre. While the applicants have expressed joy over the waiting room facility provided by authorities, availability of water, proper ambience and non-availability of chairs in the waiting room still remains an issue.
The floor of the waiting room is not plastered and applicants are forced to stand in the absence of proper seating arrangements. Relatives of applicants can be seen sitting on the floor as they are left with no other option.
“It is a good sign that waiting room is provided for those standing in queue. In Hyderabad, applicants used to stand in queues extending onto the main road. The situation here is quite peaceful. However, providing seating arrangements and drinking water would help applicants,” said an applicant from West Godavari district.
“Since applications are being processed at the earliest there is no chance for middlemen to take advantage. All that we need is basic facility. Not everyone can afford hotels to stay for few hours,” K. Ravindra, accompanying his friend applying for passport, said.
