Kakinada: As Godavari Pushkarams are approaching, almanac writers, astrologers and pundits are engaged in a war of words over the veracity of their respective almanacs. They are challenging one another claiming that their predictions and calculations are right.
They are also announcing huge cash prizes for anyone who successfully challenges their system. There are vast differences in almanac calendars for fixing festivals and pushkarams. This is confusing the people.
Noted Almanac writer-Mahamahopadyaya Madhura Krishna Murthy Sastry announced Pushkarams on June 28 and he also started the fete on Sunday. His son Madhura pala Sankara Murthy Sarma said that their predictions are close to the greatest astrologist Varahamihira. He said he will give Rs 6 lakh, if anyone can prove his calendar wrong.
The Kurthalam Peetham Asthana Siddanthi Srinivasa Gargeya announced over Rs 10 lakh, if anyone can prove Dirkh Siddhantha is wrong. Srisailam Ashthana Siddanthi Butte Veerbadra Daivazna said anyone could challenge him without pen or paper and all the calculations should be carried out within two hours.
