Chennai: Counting of votes for the high profile Radhakrishnan Nagar assembly constituency will begin on Tuesday by 8 am at the counting centre at Queen Mary’s College, a statement from the chief electoral officer Sandeep Saxena said. The re-poll to the polling station 181 held on Monday recorded a polling of 85.54 per cent, the statement said. The entire counting process would be videographed and each counting table will have one micro observer apart from the counting staff. The observer will invariably be a central government employee.
To ensure transparency in the counting process, copy of result of each table would be given to each counting agent by the counting staff, Saxena said. According to public elections department sources, as many as 16 tables have been arranged and the result is likely to be declared before noon. By 10 am, the trend will be out and the counting will start with postal votes. As per the instructions of the Election Commission, counting agents are not permitted to bring mobiles inside counting station. Only authorized persons will be permitted in the premises near counting station.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK cadres are all set for celebrations as results break in. The party functionaries were seen ordering sweets and purchasing crackers. “We are ready for celebrations and sweets are ready for distribution,” said K. Pandurangan of Anna Thozhirsangha Peravai. Women voters have outnumbered men in casting their votes and Amma’s victory margin will be a new all time high record, he said.
