Bengaluru: That’s a blue moon! 2 full moons in July

Term was originally used to refer to the third moon in a season with four moons
Bengaluru: If you’re the sort to do your chores once in a blue moon, then you’re going to have your work cut out for you this month! July 1 and 31 will have full moons, making that two in a single season. Today, this is popularly – and incorrectly, by the way – referred to as a blue moon.
The term was originally used to refer to the third moon in a season with four moons – this happens on an average of about once every three years. Needless to say, this has nothing to do with the colour of the moon!
Astrologers say that this could portend a month with greater emphasis on emotions, which is what the moon traditionally denotes.
“The first full moon occurs in Taurus (Rohini nakshatra) and the second, at the end of the month occurs in Gemini (in Arudra), said well-known astrologer, Amara Bavani Dev.
“It wll be an emotionally-charged month, more so for the water signs of Pisces, Scorpio and Cancer. However, both full moons occur in very auspicious signs – the moon is in exaltation (at its strongest) in Taurus. Both the signs concerned will be well favoured this month.”
Blue moon apart, prepare for a starry, starry sky in July, as the cosmic king and queen – Jupiter and Venus conjunct until August 27. Again, July 1 and July 31 are the dates you want to look out for, if you want to see the two brightest planets at their closest.
