Dry spell continues over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

With no rain, the mercury stayed on the rise, and and the breeze has vanished too

Hyderabad: The dry spell that has engulfed both states after a week of above normal rain continued on Sunday. Few stations in AP recorded any rainfall, while some stations in Telangana recorded light rainfall.

With no rain, the mercury stayed on the rise, and and the breeze has vanished too. On Sunday, Nellore recorded 39.4ºC and Kavali, 39.3ºC. In most of Andhra Pradesh, the temperature has risen from below 30ºC to more than 35ºC.

The trend repeated in Telangana, though it was not as warm as in AP. Hanmakonda recorded the maximum temperature of 36.1ºC in Telangana according to recordings made by the India Meteorological Department.

For the next five days, the IMD forecasts light to moderate showers at several places in AP and Telangana.

“The absence of a low pressure system has caused the weakening of the southwest monsoon and the dry weather,” said an IMD official.
