Hyderabad: About 96,000 out of the 2.8 lakh challans issued by the traffic police in one month were related to wrong parking, highlighting yet again the size of the parking problem in the city.
The police has stepped up its drive against wrong parking to keep roads free of obstruction.
The Metro works has resulted in the narrowing of roads and the police has ramped up efforts to keep them free.
Traffic police says obstructive parking is being fined as it causes problems for other motorists.
“I don’t want to park my vehicle on the road, but I was forced to do so as there are no other options. It becomes almost impossible to drive 1.5 km through dense traffic to find a parking space and walk back for shopping or to go to an office,” said Mr Vishal K., who was fined thrice for wrong parking.
