Seek consent before planting trees: Kochi Corporation
KOCHI: The Kochi corporation council on Saturday decided that individuals and organisations should take consent from the corporation before planting saplings in public places. The council took the decision in the wake of the Kothamangalam bus trag-edy on Friday.
The mayor also instructed health inspectors to cut down branches of big trees that pose danger to public safety, after receiving written instructions from the corporation councilors to this regard. It was also decided to remove all dangerously perched trees with the help of social forestry officials.
The council also decided to implement animal birth control programme in all areas of the corporation. One more ABC unit will be launched to intensify the operations in this regard.
The corporation was also instructed that lorries carrying waste should leave the collection point only after all such vehicles had reached the collection point.
This order came after councilors brought to the mayor’s attention the possibility of an epidemic outbreak in the wake of improper collection of waste from the collection points. It was also decided to involve Kudumbasree units in the waste removal process.
It was also decided during the meeting that DMRC officials would be informed about the need remove mud from routes where the Metro work is under way.
