King George Hospital to get a facelift soon
Japanese aid sanctioned for development
Visakhapatnam: The well-known King George Hospital (KGH), which is serving the medical needs of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring Odisha, is all set to get a facelift – thanks to the corporate social responsibility initiative by the PSUs and the Japanese government choosing the hospital to devise an aid for the development works.
During his recent visit to Visakhapatnam, principal secretary (Health) L.V. Subramanyam, monitored the functioning of the KGH and also insisted the officials to come up with a detailed plan to expand the KGH’s horizons. Speaking to DC, resident medical officer K.S.L.G. Sastry, who is currently acting as the in-charge superintendent of KGH said, “All the labs in the KGH premises that are scattered here and there will be brought under one roof and a plan to this effect will be submitted within the next fortnight.”
“To meet the medical needs of the next generation, we are drafting a master plan. This project consists of identifying idle places to construct new blocks, demolishing some old buildings and building a high-rise central block comprising multi-disciplinary and most advanced facilities to dole out best-in-class services to the patients.
There is also a proposal of underground drainage system and expansion of casualty in the coming days,” he added.
The KGH officials are also gearing up to submit a report to the Government of Japan as it has chosen KGH and its affiliated Andhra Medical College to assist Rs 300 crore as aid to uplift the facilities in the hospital.
According to another official, about 10 PSUs in Vizag have contributed about '60 crore for KGH under their corporate social responsibility initiative and the works will begin once the plan is documented.
