Central Administrative Tribunal nullifies suspension
Hyderabad: The Central Administrative Tribunal has declared the suspension of Vijayawada Railway SP P. Syam Prasad as illegal. The tribunal set aside the suspension orders issued by the AP government.
A two-member bench comprising B. Venkateswara Rao (Judicial) and Ms Ranjana Chowdary while granting relief to the petitioner observed that the suspension was “unwarranted” and directed the authorities to restore alll the benefits he missed out on account of his suspension. According to Mr K. Sudhakar Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, the AP police first transferred Mr Prasad from his posting as railway SP post a year ago.
“There was no written order of transfer, Just a phone call from Hyderabad asking him to hand over charge to someone and report to the DGP’s office. This was an oral order,” he said. He said when the official challenged his abrupt oral transfer, the tribunal immediately suspended it on the ground that it was despotic in nature.
He said the authorities framed a false charge against the petitioner that he was drawing HRA from the state government despite using accommodation provided by the railway. The tribunal on its final order found that the excess HRA charge levelled against Mr Prasad and the consequent suspension were unlawful.

PIL seeks VCs for TS varsities
A PIL was moved before the Hyderabad HC seeking to direct the TS government to take steps to appoint vice-chancellors to universities.
The Forum for Good Governance, a voluntary organisation represented by its secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy, filed the plea stating that the state government had failed to appoint VCs to 10 universities.
He said the Osmania, Kakatiya, Telangana, Mahatma Gandhi, JNTU, PS Telugu University, B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Palamuru, Satavahana and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts Universities did not have VCs.
He said these universities may lose funds from Central agencies like the UGC. The lack of VCs may affect the quality of education, the dearth of teaching staff in many departments would negatively affect the universities.
