For the travelling fashionistas
Here’s a peep into some latest holiday fashion for the globe trotting woman says Ananya Rao
With the arrival of summer, the very first thought on everyone's mind is where to go on vacation. While planning a vacation, a lot of aspects must be taken into consideration. One of the most important ones is what to pack. Although that depends on the place you are visiting, it is imperative that one must have a versatile wardrobe packed to make travel easier. During summer months, usually the weather is warm, and thus clothes that are lightweight and breathable are ideal as they keep you cool, and dry easily incase of excess perspiration.
Prints like floral, paisley, and horizontal stripes are quintessential summer prints, but they can get a tad bit cliché. Many new prints seen this season are, tribal, oriental, and especially Indian prints, which has gained popularity among western fashion brands such as Forever 21, Arrow, Allen Solly, And, Chemistry, Van Heusen and others.
Light pastel colours are preferred as they blend well, and are less heat absorbent. Also layering is important while traveling, as one must be prepared for all kinds of weather. Designer Raj Shroff states, “Keep it simple for a summer break. Floral pastels and simple prints are perfect for petite women, and colour blocks for the curvier ones. European summer breaks always ask for a warm, lightweight jacket or a simple pashmina. Lighter the colours, the better, deep Indian colours are a strict no-no.” He also adds, “If you are on the larger side, stay away from shorter looks. Go for straighter skirts with easy layering.”
Pieces of clothing like scarves, shorts, cotton shirts, and leggings are a must for travel as they are multipurpose, they can be mixed and matched and worn in many different styles, hence used more than once. For this year, the trends that have hit the runways are inspired greatly from music festivals like Coachella, Tomorrowland and many more. High waisted shorts, Kimono style jackets, Crotchet cover ups, printed palazzo pants, flower crowns, flash tattoos, whimsical jewellery, gladiator style sandals, are just a few of the trends that have been inspired from these festivals. A lot of the travel fashion that is making a comeback today is inspired from the 60’s and the 70’s, also known as the ‘hippie era’.
