Pushkaralu work remains half done

Work on bathing ghat for VIPs at a sluggish pace
Karimnagar: TRS-led government is claiming that Pushkaralu, a mass holy bathing event slated to be held from July 14 to 25, would be organised on the lines of Kumbh Mela. But, lethargy in completion of construction of bathing ghats and roads at Kaleshwaram village in Mahadevapur mandal in view of Pushkaralu is likely to affect quality of the work.
Construction of bathing ghats and roads is underway at Kaleshwaram at an estimated cost of Rs 19.75 crore.
Endowment minister A. Indrakaran Reddy instructed executing agencies to complete different works relating to Pushkaralu by June 30, when he visited Kaleshwaram on May 24. In the meantime, information technology minister K. Taraka Rama Rao stressed on the need to meet deadline, June 30, during a review meeting held in Karimnagar on June 24.
Despite this, erection of ghats, roads, temporary toilets and parking slots etc are not going on at the desired pace. For instance, the construction of bathing ghats being taken up at a cost of Rs 2.14 crore is moving at a snail’s speed. Sources said that around 75 per cent of work belonging to the ghats was completed so far.
Significantly, over 70 per cent of the road, to be laid from the banks of the river to a government school at an estimated cost of Rs 22 lakh, still needs to be done. It is learned that the executing agency was using poor quality sand and large sized concrete in forming the road. At the same time, a culvert remained half-constructed on a stretch between the 108 Lingala Temple to Nalla Pochamma Gudi.
A bathing ghat meant for VIPs and its approach road, construction of temporary toilets and formation of another stretch from Nalla Pochamma Gudi to ST Colony are being carried out at a sluggish pace. Side drains and sanitation works in the village are yet to begun. As the date of the event is nearing, the contractors will be forced to complete works as early possible.
