Cash-for-vote: Order on Revanth Reddy bail on June 30
The judge was concluding the hearing of bail petitions of Mr Revanth, Bishop
Hyderabad: Justice Raja Elango of the Hyderabad High Court on Friday reserved his orders till June 30 on the bail petitions of Telangana TDP MLA Revanth Reddy and two other accused in the cash-for-vote case. The judge was concluding the hearing of bail petitions of Mr Revanth Reddy, Bishop Harry Sebastian and Mr R. Udaysimha, who are in judicial custody till June 29.
While hearing the petitions, the judge pointed out that though ACB had made out a prima facie case against the accused, it could not show any valid material that required the continued detention even after four weeks of judicial detention. He also pointed out that the ACB had not recorded the reasons for making the arrests of the accused in this case.
Opposing the bail applications, Mr K. Ramakrishna Reddy, advocate general of Telangana appearing for ACB, said that freedom to Mr Revanth Reddy at this stage would be a huge problem for the investigation which was still in its primary stage. He said that the probing agency had to record the statements of some more witnesses and was still to know the source of the money used in the scam.
He alleged that some more political persons were involved in the conspiracy behind the scam and if the accused were set free at this stage, it would affect the investigation. Citing the case of Ms Kanimozi and Mr Raja of DMK in Tamil Nadu, who were sent to jail in the 2G scam despite their affinity with the previous UPA regime, Justice Elango observed that political connections would not achieve anything in such matters.
Senior counsel Mr Siddhartha Luthra of Supreme Court, appearing for Mr Revanth Reddy, contended that his client had already served 25 days in custody and that all the evidence in the case had been collected by the ACB and there was no question of tampering.
