The trio allegedly attacked the cops and tried to flee

Bengaluru: Two traffic sub-inspectors were allegedly attacked by drunk drivers in separate incidents in the city on Thursday night in Indiranagar and Madiwala traffic police limits. Three men, who were under the influence of alcohol, allegedly attacked a traffic police sub-inspector, Nanjundaiah, attached to Indiranagar traffic police station. The arrested have been identified as Tarun, a resident of Vasanthnagar, and S.N. Gupta, his friend. The other accused, Vinay, managed to escape.

A senior police officer said that the incident took place around 12.30 am when Mr. Nanjundaiah and constable Sagar, who were deputed for drunk and drive checks, were checking vehicles on 100 feet road. They stopped a speeding car bearing registration number KA-05-MR-662, which was driven in a rash and negligent manner. Tarun, who was driving the car, was found to be drunk and a case was booked against him.

When the cops said they were seizing the vehicle, Tarun’s friends Gupta and Vinay got down from the car and picked a quarrel with them. The trio allegedly attacked the cops and tried to flee. The injured cops alerted the policemen on night beat, who rushed to the spot and arrested Tarun and Gupta. In another incident, Kiran Kumar, a 32-year-old cab driver, allegedly attacked Chandradarar, a sub-inspector attached to Madiwala traffic police station, after he was booked for drunk and driving.

The HSR police arrested the driver who is a resident of Venkatapura off Sarjapura main road. The police said the incident took place around 9 pm when Mr. Chandradarar and a few constables stopped the cab. Kumar was found driving the car under the influence of alcohol.

The driver started abusing Mr. Chandradarar and the constables when they asked to get down from the car. As the SI ordered the constables to seize the car, Kumar allegedly pushed him and tried to flee. The police nabbed Kumar after chasing his cab. Mr. Chandradarar suffered minor injuries as he fell on the ground, the police said.
