Movie review 'Tiger': Predictable, but an interesting film

Sundeep Kishan steals the show

Cast: Sundeep Kishan, Rahul Ravindran, Seerath Kapoor, Tanikella Bharani and others
Director: I V Anand
Rating: Three and a half stars

Two big producers, Tagore Madhu and N.V. Prasad, teamed up for the small film Tiger. Debutant I.V. Anand directed the film, while Sundeep Kishan and Rahul Ravindra play the lead actors with Seerath Kapoor as the female lead. The film had generated curiosity because of the big producers and technicians like Chota K. Naidu and S.S. Thaman. Tiger (Sundeep Kishan) and Vishnu (Rahul Ravindran) are childhood friends, and also orphans. A couple adopts Vishnu and he gets a good education. On the other hand Tiger stops studies.

To avoid a girl, Vishnu lies to her that he is in love with a girl called Ganga, who lives in Varanasi. Coincidentally, Ganga (Seerath Kapoor) joins the same college. After the fights, both fall in love. After college, both join a software company. Meanwhile, Tiger comes to Hyderabad to meet Vishnu and differences crop up between Vishnu and Ganga because of Tiger. Ganga asks Vishnu to leave Tiger or else she won’t marry him. The situation worsens when Ganga leaves Hyderabad and goes to Varanasi. Vishnu too reaches Varanasi where he is shocked to meet Ganga’s family, who are goons. How Tiger rescues both is the crux of the story. Debutant director I.V. Anand has come up with a different subject, that of honour killing. He has managed to take a serious subject and give it a commercial blend. Though the director concentrates on the friendship between the two friends, in the backdrop he talks about honour killing. The film is fast paced, just two hours.

Sundeep Kishan steals the show. He plays the small town guy perfectly. While many young actors won’t sign a film if he does not have a female lead, it is good to see Sundeep taking up the challenge. Rahul Ravindran matches Sundeep Kishan on each step. He has done his job very well. Seerath Kapoor has a limited role, but she has done a neat job. Most of the actors look natural. Taguboth Ramesh, Saptagiri evokes a few laughs and Thanikella Bharani’s presence is felt.

The dialogues are well written by Abburi Ravi and Thaman’s music is also good. The other highlight is Chota K. Naidu’s cinematography. He comes up with good visuals of Varanasi. The action scenes are also choreographed well. The story is predictable, but it is still interesting. Though there are a few hiccups, Tiger is a good film.
