Left seeks voter support for C. Mahendran
Chennai: Left parties have appealed to R K Nagar electorate to vote for the CPI candidate C. Mahendran in the June 27 bypoll to teach a lesson to the ruling AIADMK. Though there are a total of 28 candidates in the fray the battle is effectively between Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and CPI’s Mahendran.
In a joint statement, G. Ramakrishnan and R. Mutharasan, state secretaries of CPI (M) and CPI, said that the by-election had been forced on the people to allow Jayalalithaa to get elected to the Assembly after the Karnataka high court verdict in the assets case against her.
They alleged that the ruling party was using the official machinery and money power to make a mockery of democracy. “Without taking any action, the Election Commission is maintaining silence,” they said.To protect democracy and to put an end to corruption, they appealed to voters to vote for the CPI nominee.
