Jayalalithaa urges voters to give her a strong mandate

Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa who is contesting in R K Nagar by-poll, scheduled for June 27, on Thursday urged voters to give her a strong mandate. In a statement, she said the by-election was necessitated due to “a political conspiracy by her arch rivals.” She thanked the voters for the rousing reception given to her during the campaigning on June 22. “I am moved by the warmth and affection displayed at R K Nagar and as your sister I am demanding your votes in favour of your sister for the welfare of the state,” the statement said.

“What keeps me moving is the love and affection we have towards each other. I reach out to the people again and again due to this love and have been relentlessly working for the development of Tamil Nadu” she said. She said she had been targeted for the sole reason of working for the people ever since the day her mentor and party founder M.G. Ramachandran, introduced her to politics.
She said voting for the AIADMK in the by-poll would help Tamil Nadu to be a leading state in the country.

All set for polls

Chief electoral officer Sandeep Saxena told reporters that polling stations were ready and security had been beefed up to ensure free and fair polls in R K Nagar on June 27. Distribution of voters slip is complete. A new system called Electors Assistance System (EASY) has been introduced for the first time in India by which electors will get all electoral rolls related information such as details of the electoral roll, their polling station details and also the polling station key map enabling them to reach the same, he said. This facility is available to voters through email, SMS and E-netra mobile gate way.
