Road rage unlikely in women

Fear of being manhandled, ridiculed, revenge, lack of support and legal cases are reasons for not showing road rage

Hyderabad: Fifteen per cent Hyderabadis own four wheelers and 25 per cent two wheelers. And while there has been a general increase in women drivers, women are unlikely to vent out road rage, the prime reason being fear of being manhandled, ridiculed, unwanted attention, lack of support and legal cases.

Women drivers often face “daredevils” cutting them off or roadside Romeos tailing them and passing comments. Two-wheeler women riders are the most harassed on roads and very few retaliate, other than maybe to shout or stare.

It is mostly the fear of being ganged up on that stops the rage from coming out. Many end up cursing the violator internally but nothing beyond that. Diana Monterio, a resident of Secunderabad, said, “I would assume that women showing anger in the open is not digested by many and road rage is more for men. There is also a general notion the females are bad drivers. Also, many feel that getting into road brawls are unsafe, fearing revenge. But this leads to suffocation, increase in heartbeat and decrease in self-confidence. Road rage is part of modern day living.”

In extreme incidents, women being photographed while taking breath analyzer tests by traffic cops are when the rage comes out .
