Loyola Academy ragging case: Students, parents counselled by cops

Parents allege that their children were ragged by seniors

HYDERABAD: An official from the Alwal police station said, “When our patrol vehicle reached the spot, the students had fled. We could not take any action since no complaint was lodged.”

According to sources, police called the students involved in the fight and their parents and counselled them regarding consequences if a case is booked.

However, when the college came to know of this incident, it took immediate action. The students and their parents were summoned and the former were given strong warnings not to repeat such activities as it would damage their future and also the college's reputation.

“We did not go to the police as it would affect the students’ careers. As a precautionary measure, we initiated action against nine students. Five of them have joined back and the other four will also join once their parents come and talk to us,” said Fr Joji, the vice-principal of Loyola Academy.

However, parents allege that their children were ragged by seniors. “Seniors are ragging our children regularly, but no action is being taken against them. The college has suspended our children for something which they have not done,” said a parent. “There are more than 3,000 students in the college. What happened last week is a small issue. There was no ragging at the college,” said a final year Mass Communications student.
