Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to the family of a fisherman from Kanyakumari, who was shot dead while fishing off Saudi Arabia coast on May 29. According to an official release here on Thursday, Ms Jayalalithaa handed over the cheque to Mrs S. Mary Bellaji, wife of Madhivanan, who was shot dead while fishing.
Immediately after hearing about the incident, the Chief Minister directed the authorities to take steps to bring back his body to the state and announced a solatium of Rs 5 lakh to the berea-
ved family on May31. In tune with her announcement, Ms Jayalalithaa handed over the cheque to the family, who thanked her for the gesture.
