Employees must be given a weekly off and work nine hours a day

HYDERABAD: The notification has exempted retail establishments in the state from weekly closures as mandated by the Act, provided they comply with the statutory requirements, that include giving employees a weekly off and restricting work hours to nine hours a day.
“The exemption from weekly closure will not only be beneficial for retailers to achieve their true potential but will also offer consumers 365 days of shopping. In addition, this decision will also help the economy by creating more employment,” said RAI CEO Kumar Rajagopalan. “Every employee will be allowed to avail a weekly off as per the list exhibited in the shop on rotation basis.
If the employees are found working on a holiday or after duty hours without proper indent of overtime, the exemption will be cancellation. Operational hours shall be between 9 am and 11 pm,” the notification stated.
