Traffic curbs from Sunday in Telangana
President will be in city till July 8 on southern sojourn
Hyderabad: There will be several traffic restrictions in force from June 28 to July 8 as the President is visiting the city. On June 30 (Tuesday) the routes from Rashtrapati Bhavan-Bowenpally to Raj Bhavan will be partially blocked as the government is hosting a dinner for the President.
Meanwhile, areas near the Rashtrapati Bhavan are being spruced up. Thanks to the President’s visit damaged roads and dividers are being repaired. North Zone deputy commissioner of traffic L.S Chauhan said, “Choppers are being used for most of the President's movements. A Boeing flight has been arranged for the President’s flight out of Hyderabad. On June 30 evening some routes will be blocked as the President will be going to Raj Bhavan for dinner. Traffic will be blocked two junctions ahead. An advisory plan will be released soon by the traffic department. When the President arrives on June 28 he will take the Hakimpet Army route.”
The GHMC has deployed monkey cages at the Nilayam and has also deployed additional dog catching units. The zoo department and city-based snake rescue teams have begun operations.
Ms Nalani Gupta, a resident of Bolarum said, “When a citizen calls up the GHMC only after a week street dogs are picked up but they are again dumped in the same area. Since Bolarum has a lot of greenery we have a lot of problem with monkeys but the corporation never attends to it. Even after the President's visit the problem will remain unattended.”
Meanwhile, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is carrying out road and footpath painting on the routes to be taken by the President. Road ends are being marked to give a polished look.
Tight security in place for president:
The city police is making foolproof security arrangements for President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit. As the president will be staying at the official retreat Rashtrapati Nilayam at Bolarum till July 8, North Zone police have taken steps to increase security in the area.
Additional forces from other zones of Hyderabad police will be called in to ensure that enough men are on the ground during his stay. Anti-sabotage checks have already been initiated by the police.
“We have already secured the area in Bolarum, and have started anti-sabotage checks. The area will be closed to the public and checks will be conducted by bomb detection squads and sniffer dogs,” said North Zone DCP N. Prakash Reddy.
Police officials said that rooftop security, 24 hours patrolling and pickets will also be deployed during the President’s stay. “Only people with appointments will be let inside the area. Background checks of each visiting person will also be done,” the DCP said.
Apart from the presidential security forces’ convoy, the local police special convoy would also accompany him during his movements in the city. Meanwhile, police said there will be no traffic curbs in Secu-nderabad. “If new programmes come up during the President’s stay and if there is need for traffic curbs we will inform the public,” said a senior officer.
