Rains, temperature dip reduce power demand

Heavy rain and the fall in temperatures have contributed to huge reduction in power demand
Hyderabad: Heavy rain and the fall in temperatures have substantially contributed to huge reduction in power demand — five million units in Telangana and nine million units in AP.
“On Tuesday, we had to reduce generation of 1,500-1,600 MW which is probably the highest in this season. On Wednesday, the reduction was 400-600 MW. This is a day-to-day situation and whenever the demand increases, we will increase generation,” said K. Vijayanand, CMD of AP Transco said.
With demand falling steeply, the gencos of both the states have stopped generation at some of the units partially and taken up overhauling work. These units include the thermal plants at Kothagudem, Rayalaseema and Vijayawada. Wind power generation was also stopped.
