CSIR chief, MO Garg ‘denied’ US visa

The visa has not been refused. It is in process - U.S. Embassy, New Delhi

New Delhi: M.O. Garg, the head of India’s top scientific body, CSIR, failed to attend a meeting of the world’s top research organisations in the US last week as he did not get visa in time.

The US Embassy in New Delhi expressed regret for “any delay due to system outage”. The United States is facing a “technical” problem world-wide on account of a hardware failure that has prevented the US state department from processing and transmitting biometric data checks which has hit the issuing of the US visa to many applicants.

Commenting on this specific case, the US Embassy said, “The visa has not been refused. It is in process. We hope he (Mr Garg) will be able to travel next week.” “Attending the meeting was vital. Now, the visa will be of no use to me, Mr Garg said.
