Man awarded life term for murdering wife

He murdered his second wife by hurling acid on her
Coimbatore: A 40-year-old man, who murdered his second wife by hurling acid on her, was awarded life term by a court here on Wednesday. V. Thambi alias Ravi alias Ravichandran, a daily wage labourer from Perur in Chettipalayam, had ditched his first wife and daughter and remarried T. Chandralekha, a woman from the same neighbourhood who was already married, in 2007.
Ravi, who then had a paralytic attack, couldn't go to work regularly. Meanwhile, he began to suspect her fidelity and quarreled frequently with her. On Nov 6, 2012 Chandralekha was speaking to an astrologer at the Vysial street, when Ravi came with a bottle of acid and hurled it on her.
The woman, who suffered serious burn injuries, was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and then died without responding to treatment on November 28. Following this, the Big Bazaar police altered the case from IPC section 307 (for attempt to murder) to 302 for murder and arrested him.
The III Additional District judge B. Karthikeyan, who on hearing the case, awarded life term and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000, failing which he is entitled to spend another six months in prison.
