Worker sacked over washing shoes in coffee shop's sink in Singapore
The woman scrubbed both her shoes with a brush under a running tap
Melbourne: An employee at a Singaporean hospital food court stall, who was videographed washing her shoes in the shop's sink, has been fired.
The video, which shows Singaporean coffee and dessert chain Kopitiam's employee washing her rubber shoes in a food preparation sink, was posted to Facebook by Queenie Here, News.com.au reported.
She was then seen putting the brush she was using back into a brush holder next to the sink, which contained knives used in food preparation.
In a post on its Facebook page, Kopitiam confirmed it had fired the employee, adding "with regard to the incident in our food court located at NUH, we would like to apologise for this unpleasant encounter. Please be assured that we take this matter seriously."
They also confirmed that the sink used had been disinfected and all brushes had been replaced.
Home to a diverse range of cuisines, Singapore has long established itself as a food hub in Southeast Asia and its strict food safety standards, meanwhile, give restaurants and retailers a further competitive advantage.
