Karnataka: Sample Survey to include non-agricultural enterprises
Bengaluru: Dr. Rajeswari Kasturi, director, NSSO (FOD), Bengaluru, informed that the 73rd round of the National Sample Survey will include unincorporated non-agricultural enterprises belonging to manufacturing, trade and other services (excluding construction).
She was speaking at the regional training camp at the 73rd round of the national sample survey office (field operations division) for Karnataka south region which commenced on Tuesday. She informed that 672 villages/urban blocks will be covered in Karnataka and at the national level 16, 348 villages/urban blocks will be covered. She explained the purpose and objectives of the different subjects covered in the survey.
Mr. U.R. Subramanya, Joint Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the Karnataka government, explained the objectives of the survey. "Data collected in the survey will be used for estimation of gross value added of enterprises and also for state income estimation purpose," he said. He also explained in the current survey that the UFS block will be used for the 1st and 2nd sub-round and the enumeration blocks of 2011 Census will be utilised for the 3rd and 4th sub-round of the survey.
Mrs. Gopa Chattapadhyay, Deputy Director-General, NSSO (DPD), Kolkata, while addressing the gathering, explained the scientific methods and the huge work force involved in data collection and the consolidated efforts of SDRD/DPD/FOD in making NSSO the most popular organization the world over. She emphasized that the data collected will be meeting the requirements of different ministries.
Mrs. Anjana Dube, Director, NSSO (DPC), Bengaluru, spoke on the importance of the NSSO survey and the uniqueness of the organization. She stressed that the collection of reliable data and inappropriate data led to sampling errors. She also explained the scientific sampling method on the same subject that was covered during the 67th round.
Mr. Krishnamurthy Maiya, Director, NSSO (FOD), SZ, Bengaluru, explained how some of the blocks of the schedule were revised to meet the requirements of different agencies. He also explained that the growth of the service sector had resulted in poverty alleviation.
He also explained that the ministry was spending a huge amount on media publicity which had resulted in awareness among the general public about NSSO. Mr. Rony Jose Kokkad, Assistant Director, NSSO (FOD), RO was present on the occasion.
