Guess why Samsung put a large screen on the back of this truck
Getting stuck behind a large truck in front of you on a highway is no fun, especially when you are in a country where following lane discipline is a strict law. To overcome this issue, Samsung has installed a large display on its truck to let vehicles behind it see the road in front of the truck. This allows the following vehicles to know what is ahead of the truck and if he can overtake accordingly.
Intelligently thought, Samsung, the Korean tech giant, has installed a large display on the rear of their truck so that vehicles stuck behind it can know what is ahead and act accordingly. The screen is nothing but large display panel connected to a camera on the front of the truck. The display shows the vehicles behind about the status of the road and oncoming traffic in the next lane, so that the vehicles can overtake the truck when needed. Keeping safety in mind, the idea is a great step, allowing vehicles to overtake with caution.
Mashable reported that the Argentinian division of Samsung shows off what it calls a Safety Truck. The a semi truck with a wireless camera mounted on the front, displays the road ahead on a screen tacked on to the back of the truck. The move is a part of an effort to reduce head-on collisions from passing.
The rear display is made up of four smaller displays to create a huge panel, giving drivers behind a glimpse of what lies in front of the truck. This will allow drivers to see obstacles and prevent the need of emergency (sudden) braking.
Mashable stated that Samsung is not using the truck anymore, and it was only operational for testing. However, the tech giant is working with the government safety agencies to further develop the idea. Though the technology could be a boon for two-lane roads, it could be useless for multi-lane broadways. The display could also cause distraction to following traffic.
