KCR: Calculate power needed for 9-hour supply
Officials replied that they are drawing up plans to divide agriculture feeders into two
Hyderabad: Chief Minster K. Chandrasekhar Rao asked officials of the two discoms how many megawatts of power is required to provide nine-hour uninterrupted supply to all agricultural pump sets during the Kharif season. “I know you don’t have any statistics. At least calculate now in a scientific way. Stop supply of power for industrial use when the demand is high in August and supply power for nine hours completely. You can arrive at a broad idea,” he told officials.
Telangana has over 23 lakh agricultural pump sets and most of them supplied by the northern discom. Power supply to the agriculture sector has been erratic and farmers are facing trouble when it is given in two to three sessions and even during nights, Mr Rao noted.
Officials replied that they are drawing up plans to divide agriculture feeders into two. One feeder would be supplied power from 6 am to 3 pm and the second from 9 am to 6 pm. Most of the supply will be between 9 am to 3 pm in all feeders.
“We are going to strengthen transmission system to withstand load. We are spending Rs 7,500 crore to supply 5,200 MW. The distribution system is being strengthened with Rs 1,100 crore. We are spending Rs 60 crore to buy transformers and Rs 327 crore for other equipment. 300 crore is earmarked to set up 132/220 kv lines. By next March, another 3,000 MW of power will be available which can be useful for supply of nine hours to agricultural pump sets,” officials said. Chief Minister has asked officials to focus on solar power generation under TSGENCO.
