Karnataka Upalokayukta seeks report on in-house corruption
Bengaluru: Following allegations of corruption in the Lokayukta institution, Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B. Adi has directed SP Sonia Narang to submit a status report on the progress of the investigations into the allegations by July 6.
Members of the Janaadhikara Sangharsh Parishath submitted a petition to Justice Adi, expressing concern over corruption in the agency and requesting an impartial probe.
“Since the allegations refer to corruption within the institution, any probe should be free, fair and independent. As the public and media doubt the integrity of the institution, serious effort is required to find out the truth.”
“An appropriate investigation, without being influenced by any circumstances, should throw light on the truth of the allegations to allay doubts and suspicions of the people,” Justice Adi stated in his direction to Ms Narang.
The Lokayukta should not only be an institution free from corruption, but there should not be any reason to suspect corruption inside this institution, as it would demoralise the authorities to investigate complaints of corruption against the government officials and others, the letter stated.
