Karnataka: Congress to gift posts before BBMP polls

List ready for posts in boards, corporations; 750 party workers to benefit

BENGALURU: The long wait for aspirants could soon be over as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar have cleared the names of about 750 party workers for posts of directors and members of state-owned boards and corporations in a move seen as an effort to galvanize the state unit of the ruling party ahead of elections to BBMP.

The lengthy list of names of partymen would be announced in a day or two as it was drawn by the two leaders at the end of a marathon meeting on Monday night. “Mr Siddaramaiah and Dr Parameshwar were closeted in a posh hotel for more than three hours while finalizing the names,” a senior leader told Deccan Chronicle.

These appointments were hanging fire for several months even after the government took a decision to pick partymen for posts of chairpersons of boards and corporations, thus resulting in frustration among party workers. With the wait getting too long, some of them were pressurizing senior leaders and ministers who in turn had approached some central leaders of the party. In fact, certain central leaders advised Mr Siddaramaiah to address the issue of appointing directors and members before taking up a reshuffle of his cabinet.

Sources said though Mr Siddaramaiah tried his best to postpone the announcement, Dr Parameshwar prevailed upon him stating that level of frustration among party workers growing and could even set off a revolt in case the appointments were delayed further. “Dr Parameshwar also advised Mr Siddaramaiah not to postpone minor postings as these are for workers who have the capability to make or mar the prospects of the party in forthcoming polls. Realising that such incentives are needed at this juncture, Mr Siddaramaiah agreed and decided to give his nod for filling up of these vacancies,” sources added.
