Huge crowds throng Suresh Gopi meetings
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If crowds that thronged Suresh Gopi’s election meetings in Aruvikkara constituency on Tuesday are any indication, the BJP candidate O Rajagopal could pose a big threat to his rivals.
Right from his first public meeting at Aruvikkara junction, the action hero attracted crowds especially women during his day long electioneering. Besides galvanising young BJP workers, the actor’s presence clearly brought a big smile on Rajagopal’s face.
At every meeting, Suresh Gopi sought votes for development. He suggested Aruvikkara for setting up the proposed High Court Bench.
The actor steered clear of criticising UDF and LDF but asked people to end the culture of bipolar politics. According to him, Aruvikkara could trigger that big change in state’s politics.
Political observers said the huge response to the actor had more to do with Suresh Gopi's star appeal and his close connect with families because of his ongoing popular TV show “Ningalkkumakaam Kodishwaran”.
On a day when Suresh Gopi drew big crowds, the LDF brought actor Innocent MP to woo voters at local level. Instead of addressing big public meetings, the actor covered many panchayats, travelling through narrow lanes and interior roads. He met people and solicited their votes.
Innocent's main target was UDF’s corruption. “We all know that UDF ministers have taken bribe. But if there is anyone who still has doubts, then he better get himself examined,” he said.
“I will have to take ayurveda treatment after this campaign tour,” he said while taking a dig at UDF’s development claims and the poor road conditions in the constituency.
Other point of his campaign was the facilities that he had provided for cancer patients. “Being a cancer survivor I know how difficult it is for the people to get good treatment. I have got four mammograms installed in hospitals in my constituency,” he said.
Men, women and children came out in big numbers at all places to see the actor in flesh and blood.
The UDF is bringing popular actor Khushboo for a road show in support of Sabarinathan on Wednesday.
