15-yr-old Pakistani boy's penchant for selfie cost him his life
Lahore: A 15-year-old schoolboy who was taking a selfie while pointing a toy gun at his friend died after the police in Pakistan's Punjab province mistook them for armed robbers and opened fire on them.
The boys, identified as Farhan, 15, and Fahad, 14, were taking the pictures with the toygun for putting them up on social networking sites when a police officer in Faisalabad opened fire on them, without any warning.
Both the boys were injured and taken to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital, where Farhan, whose condition was critical, died of excessive bleeding late Monday night.
SHO Faryad Cheema, the police officer who opened the fire on the boys, told an investigation team that the police team thought the two were carrying out a robbery.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said Cheema and four other officials have been arrested and a murder case has been registered against them.
"A judicial inquiry team has also been formed to probe the incident," he said.
According to family members, the boys were taking selfies when the police opened fire on them without any warning.
