iPad Mini finally gets the axe, the last of its non-retina display tablet

Apple finally pulls down the curtain on the last non-retina iPad Mini

Apple has finally axed the iPad Mini, which was one of the last non-retina display device and an entry-level tablet. Now all Apple’s tablet series, the Mini and the Air, will sport the 64-bit processor and feature a retina display.

The Mobile World Congress reported that ‘Indeed, while the device was in one respect marked out by its screen, it also differed from its siblings under the hood, as a legacy from before Apple shifted to 64-bit chips. Removing the device from the line should give the vendor easier platform maintenance in future, as it also ends support for other 32-bit products (the iPhone shifted to 64-bit at iPhone 5S).’

The iPad Mini was debuted in October 2012 and has stayed on for a good three years in the Apple portfolio. The refreshed iPad Mini with Retina display later entered in 2014, which now makes it one of the cheapest tablets on the shelf.
