AIADMK cadres elated
Enthusiastic response to Jaya’s campaign in R K Nagar
Chennai: It was the day AIADMK cadres were waiting for ever since their party supremo J. Jayalalithaa got acquitted in the assets case. Brief it may be compared to the earlier poll campaigns, but Jayalalithaa has definitely fulfilled her cadres by offering a ‘darshan’ they had waited for. The 15-minute talk at Tondiarpet and a little over that near Power House Bridge plus the occasional symbolic waving of the hand (from inside the caravan) from Poes Gar-den till the end was what brought 41-year-old T. Muruganandam of Orathanadu in Thanjavur to the state capital. “I saw amma when the van whizzed past there (pointing to the bridge). This is our spot. I called my family and asked them to keep the mobile phone near the TV. I heard amma speak.”
“Indeed she went to the Fort St George in style after the acquittal. But this is different. We were waiting to see amma campaign. It happened. I feel satisfied,” the farmer from Thanjavur says, blaming the cops for the poor traffic management. “The convoy crossed and she even left the venue 20 minutes back. Why are they keeping the bridge closed still? They can open the traffic.”
There were also a few like Arumugam Chinrasu of Erode, who said, “Did you see the cr-owd? This is only a precursor? You will more in 2016.” At least a few couple of thousands of party men and residents were gathered at the foot of the Power house bridge to catch a glimpse and wait for the CM. “I learnt that the constituency was not developed during our and their (DMK) regime. It will change. Officials will work with fear. Amenities will improve,” Chinrasu confidently said.
