After 21 years, K R Gowriamma pitches in for LDF
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communist veteran K. R. Gowriamma on Monday said the Aruvikkara bypoll result would give a shock treatment to the Oommen Chandy government.
She said people of the state were fed up with the corruption and mis-governance of UDF government and they were waiting for an opportunity to teach them a lesson.
The 95-year-old leader campaigned for the CPM-led LDF for the first time in more than two decades after she was expelled from the party on charge of anti party activities.
Gowriamma said that manner in which Mr Chandy was running around the constituency indicated the desperation and fear of imminent defeat in the bypoll on June 27.
“The chief minister is moving from panchayat to panchayat to seek votes,” she said and added that such tactics wouldn't work as the common man was upset with the rising prices of essential commodities.
She said the entire government was neck-deep in corruption and the ruling front was caught in a major crisis. “I am confident that voters of the constituency will give a decisive verdict against the UDF,” she added.
Meanwhile, Mr Chandy continued his vigorous campaigning holding family meetings in Puranagad, Karimalakodu, Tholicode, Veloorkonam and Mylam on Monday.
The constituency is all set to witness a star war on Tuesday with BJP’s star campaigner Suresh Gopi hitting the roads. He will conduct a road-show in many of the panchayats.
LDF is fielding Innocent MP who will also conduct a road-show. Congress campaign will get a boost with the return of CWC member A. K. Antony.
