13 post graduate medical seats falls vacant in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Seven seats in TS and six seats in AP have become vacant as the students have opted for post graduate seats in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Jawaharlal Institute of PG Medical Education and Research and PG Medical Institute and Research in Chandigarh.
There were 22 seats in both the states and 13 have become vacant as the students also qualified in the national institutes of the country.
Dr G. Srinivas of TS Junior Doctors Association said, “We are requesting the state government and also the NTR University to call for re-counselling so that these seats do not remain vacant. As the selected students have moved out, others must be given a chance. These seats must not be wasted.”
But so far no steps have been taken in the direction. The junior doctors claim that in the management quota, education for these courses is very expensive. Hence it becomes important for the government to ensure that these seats are filled up.
The junior doctors have also approached the principal secretary of both the states apprising them of the situation and for giving re-counselling a chance. Dr Vamshi, another junior doctor said, “This year the students have paid Rs 2,000 per student for counselling. This was not done before. Now when the seats are vacant, those who have paid must be given another chance.”
The vice-chancellor of NTR University Dr Ravi Raju has stated that the last date of closing the post-graduate seats was June 10. Director of health and medical education, Dr M. Ramani who spoke on behalf of students to the NTR University said, “Re-counselling would now require a lot of procedures as only the first rankers are eligible. In that case, it would require sorting it out in various specialties and also consideration of the reservation categories. All this is very time consuming and there is now no time left with the University.”
