Gang was planning to smuggle drugs to E Asia

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police busted a five-member gang on Monday and recovered 13.5 kg Methamphetamine (Meth), 60 kg tartaric acid (raw material) and equipment to manufacture the drug.
Police raided a secret lab at Rampally village in Keesara from where the material and drugs were about to be transported to Chennai. Police suspect that the gang’s Chennai counterparts were going to smuggle the drug to East Asia. The total worth of the material seized is Rs 7 crore in the international market.
The arrested men are I. Ramesh, 34, an unqualified pharmacist-cum-lab owner from Hanumanwadi and his aides, Santosh Kumar, 27, a driver, B. Anil, 33, an autorickshaw driver, Roshan, 33, a helper, and K. Ramchander, 34, from Shamshabad. The police intercepted Santosh Kumar after a tip-off that some people were transporting drugs to Chennai. “After taking him into custody the police came to know about the lab in Rampally village.
A raid led to the arrest of the main accused Ramesh and others. We also recovered 13.5 kg of Methamphetamine, 60 kg of tartaric acid, 800 gm of wet Methamphetamine, a laptop, cell phones and machines,” said Mr E. Ramchandra Reddy, Special Operation Team additional DCP. Police said Ramesh was a BSc dropout and was working in chemical firms. “His experience taught him how to make the prohibited drugs. He learned the process of making Methamphetamine, set up a lab in Rampally village and started manufacturing drugs,” said Mr Narsing Rao, Special Operation Team inspector.
The police produced the men before court. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive neuro-toxic drug. It is used to increase sexual desire and energy, police officials said.
